Time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy of charge transfer states in blends of pentacene and perfluoropentacene

چکیده
Charge transfer states in blends of organic semiconductors have significant importance for the functioning of organic optoelectronic devices, but are also interesting from the perspective of fundamental research as many of their properties as well as their influence on the photophysics of the material are not yet completely understood. We report on a time-resolved photoluminescence study of the photophysics of the charge transfer state in the prototypical donor–acceptor system pentacene mixed with its perfluorinated counterpart. We find indications for the existence of two distinct chargetransfer states, one of them formed in the bulk of the mixed phase, the other one formed at the interface to phase-separated pentacene domains. We discuss the implications of the difference in temperature dependence of the emission intensity and the lifetime observed for these charge transfer states.

Photoluminescence spectroscopy of pure pentacene, perfluoropentacene, and mixed thin films.
We report detailed temperature dependent photoluminescence (PL) spectra of pentacene (PEN), perfluoropentacene (PFP), and PEN:PFP mixed thin films grown on SiO(2). PEN and PFP are particularly suitable for this study, since they are structurally compatible for good intermixing and form a model donor/acceptor system. The PL spectra of PEN are discussed in the context of existing literature and c...
متن کاملStructural Properties of Picene−Perfluoropentacene and Picene− Pentacene Blends: Superlattice Formation versus Limited Intermixing
The structure and morphology of mixed thin films of picene (C22H14, PIC) and perfluoropentacene (C22F14, PFP) as well as mixed thin films of PIC and pentacene (C22H14, PEN) grown by simultaneous coevaporation is investigated using X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, and near-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy. For both systems we find mixing on the molecular level and the formation of m...
متن کاملTriphenylamine-Based Push–Pull Molecule for Photovoltaic Applications: From Synthesis to Ultrafast Device Photophysics
Small push-pull molecules attract much attention as prospective donor materials for organic solar cells (OSCs). By chemical engineering, it is possible to combine a number of attractive properties such as broad absorption, efficient charge separation, and vacuum and solution processabilities in a single molecule. Here we report the synthesis and early time photophysics of such a molecule, TPA-2...
متن کاملStructure and morphology of coevaporated pentacene-perfluoropentacene thin films.
The structural properties of coevaporated thin films of pentacene (PEN) and perfluoropentacene (PFP) on SiO(2) were studied using x-ray reflectivity and grazing incidence x-ray diffraction. Reciprocal space maps of the coevaporated thin films with different volume fractions reveal the coexistence of two different molecular mixed PEN-PFP phases together with the pure PEN and PFP crystallites. Th...
متن کاملIon-induced formation of charge-transfer states in conjugated polyelectrolytes.
We use time-resolved optical spectroscopy to demonstrate that the luminescence quenching observed when ions are incorporated in films of conjugated polymers can be explained by the formation of charge-transfer (CT) states that are stabilized by the Coulomb field of ions. Our investigation is focused on a conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) derived from F8BT (poly(9,9'-dioctylfluorene-alt-benzothia...
